About Ladonia

The true story about the fight for immortality, independence and freedom

Time was probably set in motion when the dragon Ladon was watching the golden apples of the Hesperides, apples that gave immortality. They were guarded in vain by Ladon as he probably was killed by Hercules. Thus immortality was placed in the world and introducing the tense between mortal and immortal time.

In the north we find a place, the tiny country of Ladonia, situated at the edge of the Scandinavian Peninsula. In the old days it was a kingdom, ruled by king Ladon, still guarding the golden apples. All of this is lost. The disastrous moment when time was set in motion and place made to a spot on earth give us the remains: ruins of the kingdom and the garden overgrown with weeds, the apple tree growing wild.

It was in the year of 1996 that Ladonia rised and entered into a new form of time and space. On the 2nd of June the country proclaimed its independance from Sweden - if it ever was occupied; the country was hardly ever discovered. And now Ladonia prosper and develop, creating its own way into boundless freedom.

No one is living in Ladonia, all of its citizens are nomades and pay visits to the two chief towns Nimis and Arx, erected during the period 1980-96.

There is a Government ruling Ladonia, the ministers are many and steadily increasing. Six County Councils are to be found splitting the area of about 1 square km. Ladonia has so far 4 different social classes: Nobilities, Common Citizens, Citizens of Honour, Spirituals.

The National symbols and currency
The flag of Ladonia is green with a green cross. There are two national anthems. One is composed by Greve Jan Lothe von Eriksen and is executed when a stone is thrown into the water. The other is composed by the Minister of Health and can be described as a tone poem on the development of Ladonian freedom.

The currency is Örtug. One Örtug is about 10 Swedish crowns. Taxes are to be payed in Ladonia but not with money. Citizens pay by giving away a part of their creativity.

There is a postal service in the country and the fee for a domestic letter is 1/2 Örtug. When the letter is stamped it will be delivered by the sender. A catalogue of Ladonian postal codes is available.

The official language is phrased latin but also English, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, German and French are accepted. A new citizen will choose a latin phrase (or a latin word) and thus be able to communicate with this.

A Ladonian Landscape
The country has the form of a triangle of about 1 square km. Most visitors enter from the south and thus passing the borderstation Tall.

Highway no 1 leads to Nimis through woods and the steep precipice Stup. The total length of Nimis is about 200 meters and the highest point is about 15 meters. Every part of this wood-piece is possible to enter and you can walk inside it. In front of Nimis you'll find the Tower of Wotan which is situated close to the sea. Under the high Tower of the Winds the National Library is to be found.

About 60-70 meters to the east Arx appears. Arx is a stone-book of 150 tons. At the moment the second copy is almost finished thus forming together a small library consisting of 300 tons of stones and concrete.

Behind Arx there is a small opening between the bushes. Among the trees the highway no 2 begins. After a few meters the apple tree of the Hesperides can be found and shortly forward opens the ravine Farstuhålet with a small cave. Traces of human beings have been discovered here, probably very old. After passing Farstuhålet the Wall (Kallmur) can be seen. It isn´t known who actually built it or when.

Highway no 2 leads to Drommen, a plain with trees and stones and brings the visitor to the east border and borderstation Rolf with Rolf's Park. These places are a memorial of the tragic death of the swedish philosopher Rolf Gottfries.
